119: Berlin(ish): Expats in Germany Collab: Coronavirus and COVID-19 in Germany (with Shaun from The Germany Experience and Nicole from The Expat Cast)
Shaun from theGermany Experience asked Nicole from the Expat Cast and myself to come on his podcast to discuss how Covid-19 has effected our lives in Germany. The conversation part of this episode is straight from his podcast. Additional parts that I included for you, the Geopats Podcast listeners, are my intro AND a break with other expat projects where expats in Asia have recorded their experiences during the Covid mess. I spent a large portion of my adult life living in Asia and it has a special place in my heart. And man am I kicking myself for not bringing basic chopsticks with me to Germany. The ones in Asian grocery stories here are gold and metal and just too flashy for a simple noodle dish.Sigh.
This is an almost empty paper goods shelf from two weeks ago. I can't really take a photo now of the same shelf because it would be completely bare and you'd wonder "what are we supposed to be looking at?"

My favorite Covid meme
Myself and many other job seeker visa wanting folks spent most of last night outside of the visa office lining up for a chance at an appointment. My husband and I got there at 1am and waited until 7am for this opportunity to apply for a job seeker visa. Why did we all do this? What was it like? What was the result? You'll have to listen to the above episode to find out.
Although I come to this experience with an American passport, I think some of the info in this episode could make this experience less painful for anyone going through this rather bizarre process.

Below is a screenshot of the Table of Content page I talked about in this episode. I removed some of my personal details from this image but it seemed to get a good response from everyone at the visa office that handled our docs so might be worth creating one for your application.

I found this Berlin Anmeldung Stories podcast a few weeks ago and really like it. It looks they may have stopped recording after one season but I really hope not. If anyone knows the Creators, please put me in contact. Thanks. I highly recommend this podcast for a further taste of the process of becoming legal in Germany as a foreigner.
And here is a recent hilarious episode of The Germany Experience Podcast (formerly Expat Life Germany) where Shaun talks to a German friend about her experiences in a visa office with her foreign friend. It is SO interesting to hear her reaction to this system.
If you have or know of a podcast episode that has a similar visa or government office experience episode please let me know and I will gladly add it here.
