3: Mandarin Chinese and English language natives share their language stories, methods and challenges: Yifei & Phil
This is our first group chat about Simplified Mandarin Chinese. In this episode we have Yifei, a Chinese college student in Shanghai and Phil from episode 2 fame (he's British), who is a Master's student and also works in Shanghai. They share their own language learning stories, their successes and challenges in an open, blunt and friendly group conversation.
Some of the things covered during this conversation are:
-how they learned their 1st and 2nd languages
-higher level language learning issues such as studying uncommon vocab for the GRE exam and how to practice less common grammatical structures in every day conversations without sounding out of place
- how to keep motivated
-challenges at different levels of learning languages
-unlearning beginner ideas of languages
- culture effecting lexical (vocabulary) nuance within a language
and so much more.
