Conversation starting on LinkedIn

Today I wanted to share a few things about Podcast To Connect on LinkedIn.

Here's how I did it.
  • connect by discussing a mindset issue that many passion led podcasters feel (and that I’m feeling strong right now)
  • gently remind them that there are 30 episodes of Podcast To Connect that they might want to listen to (without dropping a link)
  • attract new passion led podcaster followers (using hashtags)
  • mention a service I appreciate (Podspike)

✨ Here’s my post with key highlights:I started out by asking a short question in the first line because that’s what shows in the LinkedIn feed. Anything after that is hidden behind “see more”. So I like to make it short and clear.

In this next part, I mentioned the podcast name but did NOT add a link. The link is in my profile, which is where people naturally go to when they read something that resonates with them. I also included a mention and a link to Dan from Podspike because I want more folks to benefit from their services.

To finish things off, I shared the thoughts I’m struggling with as well as planted a few more hints about the podcast as well. And of course, no post is complete without a song reference. For me anyway. Sounds are how I connect, and music fits in with that so I do this often.

By showing you this example I’m not saying it’s the formula to a perfect post on LinkedIn nor am I saying that you should mimic my writing style. This is my flavor of vulnerability that works for me. By “works” I mean helps start interesting conversations that can also help my business. You should find what works for you.

Some takeaways that are helpful to incorporate are:
  • build a story
  • be subtle about mentioning your podcast
  • write short paragraphs
  • mention others (you’re building a community)
  • start with a clear, short statement or question
  • include an image or photo (mine was rather silly because that’s how I’m feeling today, despite my leadership angst)
